What is in a Name?

Emilie Helena DuMontier

We love her name.

It is sweet sounding, beautiful written...

and it suits her perfectly.

4 Hours Old

Although it is a lot of fun flipping through the name books, circling favorites and recalling names that have caught our attention previously, it is also a pretty serious job! You know your child will carry this name through life. They will wear it young and old and you want to pick a name that will suit all life has to bring. That is a lot of pressure!

Even though we knew we were having a girl, we didn't actually have a first name picked out for our little one before she was born. We both really felt we needed to see her before we "knew" who she was!

We did know the middle name would be Helena. As a namesake, Helena is my middle name, my Grandmother Halwas's name, and my Auntie Connie's middle name. Funny coincidence is that it is also in Mark's Great Grandmother Maurice's name as well. We truly felt honored to be able to carry on this name and pass it down to our little girl.

We had LOTS of first names we liked, LOTS we loved.

We actually had 13 names going into the hospital.

After the delivery we were so not focused on the name, it kind of slipped our minds to name her!

Once our new babe and I were admitted onto the postpartum unit and Mark had us all settled in, he was going to go to our place and pick up our moms to come meet the baby.

As he was headed out the door...

Me: "Hey do you think we should name her before we introduce her to our moms?"

Mark: "Ya, I guess we should. Well, now that I've seen her I think I know which name I like the best for her. Do you?"

Me: "Ya. I think I know which one I like best too."

Mark: "Ok... Well on the count of three lets both say the name we think is best!"

Me: "Ok!"

Both: "One, Two, Three... Emilie!"

Haha! It was truly meant to be!

And so it was... she would be Emilie Helena DuMontier!

  1. I absolutely love her name. It's beautiful. And I really like how you chose to spell Emilie.

(pretty cool that you both knew it was the right one!)
